SURABAYA - Police thwarted the smuggling of crystal methamphetamine from Malaysia weighing 7.2 kg which was sent by sea by boat.

Kapolres Tanjung Perak Surabaya Port, AKBP Ganis Setyaningrum said the disclosure of this case was carried out in collaboration with officials of the Tanjung Perak Surabaya Intermediate Type Supervision and Service Office (KPPBC).

"The Tanjung Perak Customs Officer contacted us after suspecting that the package was sent via a ship courier service," he said as quoted by Antara, Thursday, January 7.

When opened, the package contained a compressor tube which contained a 7.2 kilogram shabu-shabu type drug wrapped in a towel.

"The 7.2 kilogram shabu-shabu is broken into eight packs. Put into the compressor covered with a towel so it doesn't shake during the delivery process," said Ganis.

The police arrested a young man with the initials SR, 29 years old, a resident of Sampang, Madura, East Java.

According to Ganis, SR was the courier who received orders to pick up the expedition package.

"The person who ordered SR to take this item with the initials H, a Madurese, we have now assigned it to the wanted list or DPO," he said.

Based on police investigations, the person who sent the crystal methamphetamine with the initials NR is currently in Malaysia. The police are hunting him and have designated him a DPO.

The perpetrators were charged under Article 114, Paragraph (2), Subsidiary of Article 113, Paragraph (2), Subsidiary of Article 112, Paragraph (2), in conjunction with Article 132, Paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 Year 2009 concerning Narcotics.
