JAKARTA - The Surakarta City Government, Central Java will organize a residential area on the banks of the Bengawan Solo River to anticipate flooding like last week.

"With the head of BBWS (Balai Besar Bengawan Solo River, ed.) we have discussed it, we will immediately follow up," said Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka in Solo, Tuesday, February 21.

He said it was related to the houses on the edge of Bengawan Solo that could not be separated because Solo was a crowded city.

"The plan is that in Solo, densely populated areas must be vertically occupied. We start from Mojo," he said as quoted by Antara.

He admitted that until now there are still some people living on the banks of the river.

"Even in the parapet there is still. It shouldn't be allowed, later we will follow up, such as Mojo, Semanggi. We are in the midst of incessant development of slum areas. Later it will be touched," he said.

Regarding early warnings to reduce the impact of flooding, he said, it would be increased again.

"CCTV on the banks of rivers, floodgates are mandatory," he said.

He also asked the public to report damage to houses due to flooding last week. "Later, if there is damage, for example, the house collapses, just report it," he said.

In addition, securities belonging to residents affected by the flood were washed away, damaged, torn, and wet due to the flood in order to immediately report to the Surakarta City Population and Civil Registration Office (Dispendukcapil).

"Later we will help with securities. From the Dispendukcapil, it has been moving since yesterday," he said.
