JAKARTA - A number of candidates for the successor of the National Police Chief, General Idham Azis, who will retire on February 1, have appeared on social media.
Responding to this, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs as well as the Chairman of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) Mahfud MD said the names were just speculation.
"All the names circulating are still speculation," Mahfud said when contacted by reporters, Thursday, January 7.
He emphasized that until now there is no name of a candidate for National Police Chief who will be submitted to the Indonesian Parliament. This is because the names of these candidates will be finalized more by Kompolnas before submitting them to the President to then be submitted to the DPR.
"As Chairman of the National Police Commission, I make sure that all the names circulating are still speculation, throwing balls," he said.
Although there is no definite candidate name yet, Mahfud said the handover from the President to the DPR RI will be held on January 11.
"But from Kompolnas or to Kompolnas it can be any time. It could be tomorrow, it could be January 10, it could be January 11 morning," said the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK).
As previously reported, Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had considered a number of names to be appointed as the Chief of Police of the Republic of Indonesia (Kapolri) to replace General Idham Azis.
"Whoever is already there. It just so happens that it is not in my pocket," Moeldoko told reporters in Jakarta, Monday, January 4.
According to him, the name already exists and is ready to be submitted to the DPR. Moreover, this substitution was nothing out of the ordinary. So, all processes are just a matter of time.
