2 Elephants Muncul Di Sijunjung West Sumatra, BKSDA Bilang Kejadian Sesuatu Terjadi 43 Tahun Silam

SUMBAR - A total of two elephants appeared in Nagari Durian Gadang, Sijunjung Regency, West Sumatra (West Sumatra) yesterday. The Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) stated that the phenomenon last occurred on 43 ago.

"Yesterday (Tuesday, February 14) it was observed that there were two elephants in the Sijunjung area, a view like this had happened a long time ago," said Head of the West Sumatra BKSDA Ardi Andono in Padang, West Sumatra, Wednesday, February 15, confiscated by Antara.

He said the phenomenon should be greeted with joy because it means that West Sumatra now has the assets of elephant animals.

According to him, the elephant's appearance in West Sumatra had not occurred for a long time, the last time it was reported in 1980 in South Solok Regency.

The BKSDA explained the presence of elephants in West Sumatra because they are part of the crossing of thesealai animals.

"West Sumatra is a crossing for elephants, where the crossings start from Bungo (Jambi), Dharmasraya, Sijunjung and finally in Riau Province," he explained.

For this phenomenon, the West Sumatra BKSDA has dispatched a team to coordinate with the Muspika, Sijunjung KPH, to the police.

Coordination is also carried out with Geopark Silok managers because the elephant sighting location on Tuesday is included in the Geopark Silok area.

"A team from the West Sumatra BKSDA has been dispatched to monitor and record where this elephant went, as well as seek protection," he said.

The BKSDA invites the people of West Sumatra to respond with joy to the elephant's appearance and maintain its existence together, not to do hunting or flocking to the elephant.

"This is an asset for West Sumatra which states that our area has an elephant, let's protect its existence and safety together," he said.

The BKSDA emphasized that perpetrators who hunt elephants can be charged with criminal acts as contained in Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Natural Resources.
