IPW: Sentencing Ferdy Sambo's Death Toll On New Issues For The Police

JAKARTA - Chairman of Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) Sugeng Teguh Santoso said the decision on Ferdi Sambo's death sentence must be respected. However, this decision is considered problematic, because Judge Wahyu Imam Santoso with his decision has put a potential new problem on the Police.

"This death decision is a decision due to public pressure due to massive reporting and the judge was unable to escape the pressure," Sugeng said in his statement to VOI, Tuesday, February 14.

Sugeng assessed that Ferdi Sambo was certainly disappointed with this decision.

"Ferdi Sambo will appeal and will fight until the cassation or PK," he said.

According to Sugeng, the judge's decision did not include mitigating matters. In fact, these facts exist such as being polite, never convicted, having dedication and achievement during his tenure.

IPW sees the other side of the Ferdi Sambo case. According to IPW, Ferdi Sambo's crimes are not suitable for the death penalty for not being sadistic even though they are cruel, crime arises because they are out of control.

"The motive for revenge or anger for any reason is manifested with an evil act that did not lead to torture long before death is not a crime of sadistic," he said.

IPW said, Ferdi Sambo will still have the potential to get a lower verdict in the next stage.

"Because mitigating matters are not considered at all," he said.

Previously, the South Jakarta District Court decided that Ferdy Sambo, the former Head of the Propam Division at the National Police Headquarters, was guilty of premeditated murder of Brigadier J. The husband of Putri Candrawati, was sentenced to death.

"The defendant Ferdy Sambo has been legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing a criminal act, participating in premeditated murder... together," said Chief Judge Wahyu Iman Santosa during a trial reading Ferdy Sambo's decision at the South Jakarta District Court, Monday, February 13.

In its decision, the panel of judges believes that Ferdy Sambo has violated Article 340 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph 1 to (1) of the Criminal Code.
