Prabowo Subianto's Electability Skyrocketed, Anies-Sandi Even Fell

JAKARTA - The electability of Gerindra Party Chairman Prabowo Subianto is again superior to other figures related to the 2024 Presidential Election. This is based on a survey conducted by the Voxpopuli Research Center.

Previously, the defense minister's electability initially fell from 18.6 percent in June 2020 to 17.1 percent in October 2020, and has now risen to 18.9 percent.

Meanwhile, the electability of DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno, who are currently the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, continues to decline. Anies' electability dropped from 9.4 percent to only 7.7 percent. Meanwhile, Sandi from 8.5 percent to 6.5 percent.

"Sandi's entry into the cabinet does not necessarily increase his electability," said Dika Moehamad, Executive Director of the Voxpopuli Research Center, as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, January 5.

On the other hand, the electability of Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo continues to increase, from 15.6 percent in June 2020 to 17.6 percent in October 2020, and now it has increased again to 18.5 percent.

According to Dika, even though he is no longer in first place, Ganjar still overshadows Prabowo by a narrow margin of 0.4 percent.

What is surprising is that when the electability of other figures stagnates or decreases, the figure of the General Chairman of the Democrats, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, becomes a threat in itself.

After previously moving at 3.0 percent (June 2020) and 2.1 percent (October 2020), AHY's electability soared to 4.3 percent.

"The electability of Ganjar and AHY has increased amidst the stagnation and decline of other figures, with Prabowo being in the first place again," said Dika.

Ganjar remains Prabowo's strong rival towards the 2024 elections, while AHY appears to be starting to experience an increase. AHY's position also succeeded in displacing former Surabaya mayor Tri Rismaharini, who is now Minister of Social Affairs.

Risma's electability is relatively stable, only increasing slightly from 3.8 percent (October 2020) to 4.1 percent.

Likewise, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil and East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa. Kang Emil's electability fell slightly from 13.2 percent to 12.8 percent, while Khofifah's from 5.6 percent to 5.4 percent.

"Among these figures, only AHY has significantly increased electability, even though he is still in the middle board position," he said.

Other figures are Acting chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party Giring Ganesha (2.3 percent-2.4 percent), Minister of BUMN Erick Thohir (2.0 percent-2.1 percent), chairman of the DPR Puan Maharani (1.7 percent -1.4 percent), and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD (1.2 percent-1.0 percent). The other names are still below 1 percent, the rest don't know / don't answer (12.1 percent).

The Voxpopuli Research Center survey was conducted on 26-31 December 2020, through telephone calls to 1,200 respondents across Indonesia who were randomly selected from the previous survey since 2019. The survey margin of error was ± 2.9 percent at a 95 percent confidence level.
