The KPK Hopes That The Asset Confiscation Bill Will Be Ratified By The DPR

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has asked the Indonesian House of Representatives to immediately ratify the Draft Law (RUU) on the Confiscation of Money. It is hoped that the law can be passed this year. "Hopefully, in 2023, it can then be included in the priority program so that it can be ratified," said Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri to reporters at the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Thursday, February 9. Ali said the study of the draft law had been carried out since 2012. Its contents are also important to add a deterrent effect to corruptors because their assets can be confiscated more effectively. "What is currently being done by the KPK (confiscation, ed) through a court decision, through replacement money, through fines, through asset tracing," he said. "In the future, if the law is passed, I think this will strongly support efforts to eradicate corruption as a deterrent effect, yes, through prosecution," Ali continued. As previously reported, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) again pushed for the Asset Confiscation Bill to be ratified immediately. This statement was made on Tuesday, February 7 last. "I encourage the Criminal Asset Confiscation Bill to be promulgated immediately and the Bill on Limiting Cartal Money Transactions will immediately begin to discuss it," Jokowi said as reported by Antara. It is known that this draft law has not been discussed by the DPR RI for 10 years even though it has been proposed since 2012. The Asset Confiscation Bill is important considering that Indonesia has submitted ratification instruments to the United Nation Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) and the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organizationized Crimes (UNCTOC) several years ago as a reference for the formation of the Asset Confiscation Bill.
