OKU - Head of Disease Prevention and Control Division of the Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) District Health Office, South Sumatra, Andi Prapto said, fogging or infiltration methods was ineffective in preventing the spread of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). "Fogging is not an effective way to prevent dengue fever in the community," said Andi Prapto in Baturaja as quoted by Antara, Monday, February 6. Absorption methods are a technique used to kill insects, especially the Aedes aegypti mosquito that carries dengue disease. However, the method of infiltration using a spraying device is still less effective because it only kills adult mosquitoes. "Therefore, since the last few years we have not done fogging even though in OKU Regency there have been cases of dengue experienced by the community," he said. According to him, the clean and healthy lifestyle (PHBS) and 3M are draining, closing water reservoirs and burying used goods is still a very effective way to prevent dengue from spreading widely among the community. PHBS and 3M patterns can close gaps so that mosquitoes do not breed to spread disease in the community, especially children. Therefore, he said, currently his party is intensifying the 3M campaign so that people are educated to be applied in everyday life. "We carried out the 3M and PHBS movement campaign through banners installed in all sub-districts in OKU Regency as an effort to reduce the number of dengue cases," he said. Andi added, based on data throughout 2022, the number of dengue fever sufferers in OKU Regency reached 45 people, ranging from pediatric patients to 44-year-old people who were forced to undergo treatment at a local hospital due to suffering from the disease. "Alhamdulillah, all recovered patients did not die due to dengue fever. However, there was an increase in dengue cases compared to the previous year which only amounted to five cases," he said.
