The Surabaya DPRD Supports The City Government To Revive The People's Entertainment Park

The leadership of the Surabaya City DPRD supports the city government to revive the Surabaya People's Entertainment Park (THR) on Jalan Kusuma Bangsa.

"It's time for all parties to strengthen each other to revive the art of original Surabaya performances in THR," said Deputy Chairman of the Surabaya DPRD AH Thony in Surabaya, Monday, February 6, as reported by Antara.

THR is not just people's entertainment, but more than that to maintain the art of Suroboyo's original tradition.

As a form of support, the Surabaya DPRD leadership reviewed the current condition of the THR building on Jl Kusuma Bangsa, Surabaya on Friday (3/2). He checked the condition of the THR which is currently similar to wild forests.

There are four show buildings on the 5.2 hectares of land overgrown with wild trees. Various wild plants propagated towering with irregular trees.

Performance buildings, namely ludruk buildings, ketoprak, wayang orang, and Srimulat covered by wild trees. The walls and roofs are covered with wild plants like a ghost house.

This THR is an integrated area with the Surabaya Youth Park (TRS) which is a variety of toy rides and Hi-Tech Malls. Currently, both THR and TRS are closed and have been completely closed since 2018.

The Surabaya City Government plans to reopen the THR. However, the City Government's efforts to create a public spectacle center as well as a space for art and culture are still waiting for investors.

Because the 2023 Surabaya APBD of IDR 11.2 trillion has not allowed the opening of these public facilities. Moreover, it is currently still in the process of economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic.

There are several points where the THR building was damaged. However, this damage did not dampen the firmness of the art center building for this traditional art performance. Moreover, the ludruk which became the original art of Suroboyo was born and developed from THR.
