JAKARTA - Former Minister of Law and Human Rights under the era of the 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia Abdurrahman Wahid, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, assessed that the government must be firm in overcoming problems that include foreign workers or foreign workers from China in the country.

Initially, Yusril mentioned the services of the Directorate General of Immigration of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) which he said should be evaluated.

He said Immigration services should not be fully left to digitalization without being balanced with effective supervision in order to fulfill the element of accuracy.

"The Immigration service system must also be evaluated, do not easily concede. The electronic system that is built is aimed at accelerating services. But don't leave everything to the IT electronic system without strict control because it is prone to abuse," said Yusril in his Twitter account, @Yusrilihza_Mhd, Monday 6 February.

He continued, the government should also not open the door wide to foreign workers who work in the country. According to him, there needs to be an option in certain sectors that can be occupied by foreign workers, especially from China.

The General Chairperson of the Crescent Star Party considers the opening of the tap to foreign workers has the potential to threaten the stability of the country and tension between workers in the country.

"China foreign workers are free to enter without strict supervision and a careful selection of the types of work that can be done by foreign workers. This not only causes employment problems, but also social and political issues that are vulnerable and pose a threat to stability," he said.

Opportunities for the emergence of problems related to foreign workers from China are not only caused by what he has mentioned, Yusril said social media also has a contribution to clouding the atmosphere.

"Every day the Chinese foreign workers issue becomes news material and material for legislation and propaganda on social media. Not all news according to facts. But things like this easily influence ordinary people and make the atmosphere tense. The government must not remain silent in dealing with it," he said.

He also asked the government to be firm in taking a stand regarding the problems of foreign workers in the country. Including tensions triggered by social media so that it makes ordinary people restless.

"The intelligent government is a government that is responsive to every development, positive and negative. The issue of injustice and the lack of legal certainty and the problems of foreign workers that are widely discussed must be anticipated, explained and resolved," said Yusril.
