Prospective Judge Ad Hoc HAM Calls The Inevitability Of Serious Human Rights Violations Due To Political Issues

Panelist of statesmanship selection ad hoc judges at the Human Rights Court (HAM) Bagir Manan asked the prospective judges why cases of gross human rights violations have yet to be resolved. The former chairman of the Supreme Court (MA) asked Harnoto, one of the candidates for ad hoc judges at the Human Rights Court, in Jakarta, Thursday, February 2. "Why do you think it (the mysterious shooting) has not been completed to this day?" asked the former chairman of the Press Council as quoted by Antara. Initially, Bagir Manan asked whether there were still objects of gross human rights violations that had not been resolved by the state. Harnoto responded directly to the question, which is an active member of the National Police. Harnoto replied, there are still many gross human rights violations that have not been completed. Harnoto also gave an example of a mysterious shooting incident and gross human rights violations in Aceh and Papua. Hearing this answer, Bagir digs or asks further the causes of these various cases of gross human rights violations which have yet to be resolved. "So, it's not a legal issue but a political issue?" said Bagir Manan. At the end of the interview session, Harnoto, who now serves as the Head of the Madya 19 State Police School (SPN) of the East Java Police, answered firmly that a number of cases of gross human rights violations were not resolved in the country due to political issues. Previously, President Joko Widodo stated that the Indonesian government acknowledged the occurrence of 12 gross human rights violations in the past. The twelve events were an event in 1965-1966, a mysterious shooting in 1982-1985, the Talangsari incident in Lampung in 1989, the Rumoh Geudong and the Sattis Post in Aceh in 1989, the incident of forced disappearance in 1997-1998, and the May 1998 riots.
