Amphibious Aircraft Will Operate in the Selayar Islands

MAKASSAR - The Selayar Islands Regency Government, South Sulawesi confirmed that a type of seaplane that can land on land as well as in water will operate in Selayar.

Deputy Regent of Selayar, Syaiful Arif said that his party had conducted a video conference with the aircraft providers, namely PT Travindo Jaya Bajo and PT Indo Soemore Jaya.

"The facilities we need to prepare include jetty jetties, flight navigators and guides from Aroepala Airport", he said as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, February 1.

Because the aircraft provider will try to fly directly to Selayar with a charter system. This chartered aircraft can serve passengers from outside to Selayar, and also from Selayar to the mainland to the archipelago.

In response to this plan, the Vice Regent asked for the required jetty specifications, and the capacity of the aircraft to be operated. Because the seaplane is also expected to be able to serve the delivery of necessities to the island districts during extreme weather seasons.

"It has been informed that the required depth from the surface of the water is at least 2 meters, the part of the plane that sank was 60 cm", he said.

The plan is for the aircraft provider to visit Selayar to see firsthand the condition of the existing infrastructure and tourism potential in Selayar, especially the Tourism Villages of Bahuluang and Pasi Gusung.

PT Travindo Jaya Bajo and PT Indo Soemore Jaya will also make efforts to preserve the environment through waste management which will be improved through coaching, and a "single-use plastic from Selayar" program will be created.

"They will help us make Selayar more attractive to invite investors and tourists to visit. There are several things that we need to fix, such as places to eat, accommodation, transportation systems and cleanliness", said Syaiful Arif.
