JAKARTA - The Riau Islands BPBD asked residents to be aware of the snakes that entered the vicinity of their homes.

Head of the Riau Islands BPBD Muhammad Hasbi in Tanjungpinang, Tuesday, said the venomous snake came out of its nest in swamps when high tides were high. Riau Islands BPBD officers received reports from a number of residents in Tanjungpinang and Bintan who saw snakes around their residence as sea water inundated the road and entered the house.

The size of the snake is not long, but can threaten the safety of residents. Residents managed to get rid of the snake.

Until now, he said, no residents have been bitten by snakes, even though they threaten their safety.

"The change in the function of swamps when high tides and heavy rains cause snakes to come out of their nests. Therefore, residents must be vigilant, by taking into account the condition of houses and the surrounding environment," he said, Tuesday, January 31, as reported by Antara.

In addition, he said, a number of coastal residents also saw that many crew members from swamps roamed to residential areas. The crew did not threaten the safety of residents, but residents must be aware of not to prey on livestock.

"Residents must also be aware of crocodiles in a number of coastal areas on Bintan Island," said MUhammad Hasbi.

BMKG Tanjungpinang forecaster, Arifah Dwi Yuliani in Tanjungpinang, said the tide was quite high, but it did not cause tidal flooding like last Wednesday.

"Sea pairs will be high again on February 4, 2023, coastal communities must be aware of it," he said.

Residents, especially sea transportation users, must be aware of the sea wave height in Bintan waters which reaches 4 meters, the same as in Lingga waters. Meanwhile, sea waves in Tanjungpinang and Batam reached 2.5 meters.

Meanwhile, wind speeds reached 30 knots. The temperature ranges from 24-29 degrees Celsius.

"High waves, strong winds and heavy rains still occur in Bintan and Tanjungpinang," said Arifah Dwi Yuliani.
