Earthquake Detetan Di Selatan Jabar-Jateng, BMKG Imbau Warga Pesisir Kebumen Dan Cilacap Tetap Tenang

JAKARTA - Earthquakes have often occurred in the southern sea of Java, especially Central Java (Central Java) and West Java (West Java) in recent times. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to residents in the two provinces to remain calm.

"As today (Monday, January 30) from morning to noon there were three earthquakes that occurred around the southern sea of Central Java-West Java," said BMKG officer at the Banjarnegara Geophysics Station, Hery Susanto Wibowo, Monday, January 30, as reported by Antara.

He said the series of earthquakes in the southern sea of Central Java-West Java on Monday, January 30, was recorded at 07.40 WIB with a magnitude of 2.9 located at 8.47 south latitude and 109.12 east longitude or 83 kilometers southeast of Cilacap with a depth of 34 kilometers.

Furthermore, at 09.27 WIB with a magnitude of 2.6 which is located at 8.44 south latitude and 108.89 east longitude or 80 kilometers southwest of Cilacap with a depth of 10 kilometers.

Followed by an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.8 at 14:53 WIB located at 8.43 south latitude and 108.91 east longitude or 78 kilometers southwest of Cilacap with a depth of 22 kilometers.

"By taking into account the location of the epicenter (the epicenter of the earthquake, ed.) and the depth of the hypocenter and the mechanism for the fault, the earthquake that occurred was a shallow earthquake due to the subduction activity of the Australian Indo plate with the Eurasian plate," said Hery.

Nevertheless, he said that the earthquake activity that occurred on Monday, January 30, was not felt by the community.

With more frequent earthquakes, he said, accumulated energy is expected to be released or released slowly.

"Therefore, the people, especially those living in the southern coastal areas of Kebumen and Cilacap Regencies, are advised to remain calm in the earthquake that occurred in the last few days, including the three earthquakes that occurred today (Monday, January 30)," he said.
