Palembang Police Chief Commissioner Mokhamad Ngajib said the suspect is a man with the initials EF (29), a resident of Malangbong District, Garut Regency, West Java.

Based on the investigation by the Palembang Police Narcotics Research Unit, it is known that the suspect EF is a dealer who took the cannabis directly from Garut through a colleague in Medan City, North Sumatra.

The cannabis evidence was purchased by the suspect for IDR 5 million per kilogram from a colleague to be resold in several areas in West Java, including Purwakarta and Bandung.

"He (the EF suspect) admitted that the courier was paid IDR 300,000, but after being developed, he is a recidivist smuggler of cannabis across islands and becomes a dealer. The cannabis he bought will be sold at retail in several areas in West Java", said the Palembang Police Chief, reported by ANTARA, Monday, January 30.

Ngajib explained that his party already had the identity of the cannabis supplier to suspect EF and had coordinated with the Medan Police Satresnarkoba for further pursuit and arrest.

Previously, the suspect EF was arrested by the Palembang Police Narcotics Unit at the Alang-alang Lebar Terminal KM 12, Palembang, South Sumatra, Friday, January 27 evening.

The suspect was arrested along with 30 kilograms of cannabis evidence that was intended to be smuggled using a bus crossing the Sumatra highway. From inside the bus, the police found marijuana packed with brown duct tape in several cardboard packages of disposable baby diapers and cardboard boxes of cigarettes.

The suspect EF along with marijuana and a cell phone were secured at the Palembang Police Headquarters. The suspect was charged with Article 114 of the Narcotics Law with a penalty of 20 years in prison.
