SULUT - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that residents were cleaning up the post-flood debris that hit Manado City, North Sulawesi Province (Sulut).
Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari, said the flood had receded on Sunday, January 29.
"Residents and related officers then cleaned up the garbage and mud material that was carried out when the flood occurred on Friday (27 January). They also cleaned up the debris left over from building materials damaged by landslides," Abdul said in a written statement, Monday, January 30, as reported by Antara.
Cleaning up debris by a joint team led by the Manado City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) took place at several points, including those carried out by the residents of Moras Village.
Responding to disasters in the region, the Manado City Government declared a state of emergency for handling floods and landslides for seven days, on 27 January-2 February 2023.
"There are 34 sub-districts or villages in 9 sub-districts affected by the flood. The nine sub-districts are Singkil, Mapanget, Tikala, Tuminting, Wenang, Sario, Bunaken, Paal Dua and Wanea sub-districts. Meanwhile, landslides have an impact in 22 sub-districts or villages in 7 sub-districts, namely Tikala, Singkil, Wanea, Bunaken, Mapanget, and Wenang sub-districts," said Abdul.
In addition, Abdul reported the death toll from floods and landslides totaling 5 people, with details of death due to floods of 1 person and landslides of 4 people. Apart from the death toll, landslides also left residents seriously injured and several people lightly injured. Those who were injured had received treatment from the local health office.
The total number of displaced residents amounted to 1,674 people. They are spread across several sub-districts, including Bunaken District 948 people, Paal Dua (370), Singkil (215), Tikala (100), and Wanang (41).
