Dguyur Hujan Deras 2 Hours, Pulau Batang Dua Ternate Directly Flooded

JAKARTA - A number of houses on Batang Dua Island, Ternate City, North Maluku (Malut) were affected by flooding following the high rainfall that flushed the area.

The Head of Emergency and Logistics of the Ternate City BPBD, Yudi Yanto Yusuf, stated that the flood in Mayau Village caused seven houses to be flooded. 36 Jiwa from nine families were affected and fled to relatives' homes.

The flood occurred due to high-intensity rainfall that hit the area for two hours on Thursday, January 26 yesterday.

Yudi Yanto Yusuf admitted that his party received information from the local village head who reported the incident on Thursday (26/1) at around 09.00 WIT, quoted from Antara, Friday, January 27.

He explained that the flood occurred due to overflowing rivers in Mayau Village entering residential areas.

The Mayau Village Government and Batang Dua Island District, namely providing food packages and building public kitchens for 36 residents affected by the flood.

In addition, said Yudi, the Ternate City BPBD dispatched a team to the flood site to collect data and take further steps.

He appealed to local residents to increase their vigilance, considering that the circular from BMKG stated that the potential for rain would still occur for the next few days.

BMKG Sultan Baabullah Ternate predicts that the weather conditions in North Maluku in recent days have generally been cloudy with the potential for light rain in the areas of Morotai, Galela, Tobelo, Jailolo, Loloda, Mother, Batang Dua, Hiri, Ternate, Tidore, Moti, Makian, Kayoa, Kasiruta, Bacan, Obi, Mangole, Sanana, Taliabu, and surrounding areas.

In addition, the local BMKG also issued an early warning alert for the potential for moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds that could potentially flood in the Morotai, Jailolo, Galela, Dama, Kao, Ma'am, Tobelo, Batangdua, Weda, Patani, Sofifi, Sessionoli, Maba, Buli, Wasile areas, as well as sea waves with an altitude of 2.5 meters in the northern West Waters of Halmahera, Loloda Waters, North Morotai Waters and Halmahera Sea.
