JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic was a confusing time for all, including the world health organization or WHO. He said no one had experience in dealing with the spread of this virus.

"There are no standards, there are no standards because we all don't have experience in dealing with this pandemic," said Jokowi when opening the Coordination Meeting for the Transition of Handling COVID-19 and National Economic Recovery 2023 in a YouTube broadcast of the Presidential Secretariat, Thursday, January 26.

Jokowi mentioned that during the COVID-19 pandemic several protocols to prevent the spread of the virus had changed. For example, about the use of masks.

Jokowi said, he once asked WHO about the use of masks. At that time, the world health agency answered that masks were only worn by those who were not feeling well and had been exposed to COVID-19.

However, this recommendation then changed so that the implementation of health protocols in the country followed suit. "In less than a week, everyone has to wear masks," said Jokowi.

"It turns out that they are confused, we are also confused," continued the former governor of DKI Jakarta.

Not only that, Jokowi also mentioned the availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) which was apparently produced domestically but was sent to other countries.

These various examples, said Jokowi, so evidence of confusion does occur in all sectors. However, everything can be overcome with good management.

"The macro and micro management that we are doing is really very effective and I see that we are working because we are depressed by problems, depressed by the problems of everything working. That's what I haven't seen before," he concluded.
