Meeting With The Press Council, KPU Targets The 2024 Election Campaign Rules At The End Of The Monthly Village Media

JAKARTA - The General Election Commission (KPU) is coordinating with the Press Council regarding discussions regarding the socialization rules and the 2024 election campaign. "Earlier, we (KPU) just had a meeting with the Press Council. There are several parties who will be involved, for example, related to socialization or campaigns carried out in print media, so we must coordinate with the Press Council," said KPU RI member Mochammad Afifuddin to reporters when met at the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) Office, Jakarta, Friday, January 20, confiscated by Antara. Currently, Afif added, the socialization rules and the 2024 election campaign which will be outlined in the KPU (PKPU) regulations are still in the discussion stage.

In addition to the Press Council, he said the KPU would also coordinate and cooperate with other related parties, such as the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI).

"For socialization or related campaigns or broadcasting media, we must cooperate with KPI," said Afif.

Next, he said the KPU is targeting PKPU related to socialization and the 2024 election campaign can be completed by the end of January 2023. "(The target) is by the end of this month," said Afif. On the same occasion, Afif said that in the election stage, namely socialization and campaigns carried out by election participants, the KPU is the party in charge of drafting the rules. Meanwhile, he continued, the parties who played a role in the prosecution of reports of alleged fraud at that stage, including Bawaslu, KPI, and the Press Council. "We become an institution that prepares the rules. So when it comes to violations, this is the domain played by Bawaslu, KPI, and the Press Council. If the understanding is built among all parties, this will further reduce the misunderstanding in determining whether or not elements of violations are fulfilled in socialization," said Afif.
