JAKARTA - Hundreds of workers who are members of the Confederation of Indonesian Workers Unions (KSPI) will hold a demonstration at the Constitutional Court which will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2020.

According to the President of KSPI Said Iqbal, apart from the Constitutional Court, the action will also be held in 18 other areas including Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Lampung, Batam, Gorontalo, and so on.

"Each location of the action was only followed by hundreds of people, by applying physical distancing," said KSPI President Said Iqbal in his statement, Monday, December 28.

Furthermore, Said Iqbal explained that in this action his party had brought up two demands. First is canceling the Omnibus Law Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation and the second, increasing the district / city sectoral minimum wage (UMSK) in 2021.

Regarding the judicial review to the Constitutional Court, KSPI has submitted a formal and material review suit. For the judicial review, the material of the lawsuit covers 12 issues, which include: minimum wages, severance pay, fixed-time work agreements (PKWTT), outsourcing workers, working time, leave, layoffs, elimination of criminal sanctions, foreign workers, social security, and executor of manpower placement.

"Meanwhile, for the formal test, we ask that the Omnibus Law on the Job Creation Law be canceled entirely because the drafting process contained formal defects and many irregularities," said Said Iqbal.

"We ask the Constitutional Court Justices to seriously examine this case and decide the case fairly. If workers feel that their justice has been harmed, then workers throughout Indonesia will take massive action," he continued.

In addition to rejecting the omnibus law of the Job Creation Law, in action the workers also demanded that the UMSK in 2021 continue to rise. According to Said Iqbal, if the UMSK 2021 does not increase, it will reduce the purchasing power and decrease the minimum wage in certain sectors that are accepted by workers.

"Moreover, UMSK applies to certain types of industries which are considered to have the ability to pay labor wages better than most other industries," he said.
