Six People Fired As A Result Of An Attack On Paris Train Station, The Critical Perpetrator After Restricted Police

JAKARTA - A man attacked and injured six people at the Gare du Nord train station in Paris, France on Wednesday morning local time, causing one person seriously injured before being shot by an off-duty police officer, authorities said.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin told reporters the man attacked travelers with what appeared to be a homemade weapon at the entrance and inside the station. Police previously said the man used a knife or sharp weapon.

In one minute, police officers who were off duty and were about to return home after the night shift shot the assailant three times, Darmanin said.

Gare du Nord, one of Europe's busiest stations, is the arrival point for the Eurostar train from London and the main gateway to northern Europe.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Paris Prosecutor's Office said six people were injured, including a member of the French border police. One of the injured was in critical condition. The suspect is also in critical condition, the spokesman said, citing CNN.

Asked about a possible terrorist motive, Darmanin said a criminal investigation had been opened, but so far there has been no investigation into terrorism.

He said the attacker, who had been taken to hospital in critical condition, said nothing during the attack and had no identity certificate.

"One of the six injured victims is a policeman," said Darmanin.

"Thanks to the police for their effective and courageous response," Darmanin tweeted.

Separately, France's Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office said it was "evaluating facts" about the attack, but had not yet handled the case.

The fact that suspected injured attackers could extend the time needed to evaluate the facts about the case, the office added.

It is known, the police secured the location after the attack. Meanwhile, Radio franceinfo, citing the SNCF train operator, said the train network was still operating normally.
