JAKARTA - Dozens of wagon coachmen operating in the National Monument (Monas) area admitted that they had never been invited to discuss or socialize by the Central Jakarta City Government regarding the prohibition of wagons in one of the destinations in the capital city.

The Coordinator of Delman Monas Nanang expressed his disappointment with the Central Jakarta City Government (Pemkot) decision which was considered unilateral to the prohibition of wagons from operating in the Monas and Jalan MH. Thamrin to the HI Roundabout.

"We have never been invited to sit down together or socialize the ban. We are frankly disappointed that we are making a living at Monas for our family," said Nanang, quoted by Antara, Sunday, January 8.

Nanang explained, there are at least 45 coachmen operating in the Monas area whose daily depend on wagons as livelihoods.

Therefore, he asked the Central Jakarta City Government to foster all wagon coachmen so that they can still make a living for their families.

On the other hand, dozens of wagon coachmen also plan to hold demonstrations at the DKI City Hall to ask for intervention from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government regarding the prohibition of wagons.

"If indeed we, the wagon coachmen, are prohibited at the National Monument and HI, we will raid the office of the Governor of DKI Jakarta. We will meet with the (Perjabat) Governor of DKI Jakarta," added Nanang.

The Central Jakarta City Government plans to prohibit wagons from operating in the Monas area because horse droppings scattered on the streets are considered to cause an unpleasant odor.

"The horse piles sometimes spill, causing a smell in the Monas area," said Head of the Central Jakarta Transportation Sub-dept., Wildan Anwar during an interview, Thursday, January 5, 2023.

Deputy Mayor of Central Jakarta Iqbal Akbarudin said his party was forming a task force to ban wagons in the Monas area.

"Delman is indeed prohibited from the Mayor's Circular (SE) Number 36 of 2016 which contains a ban on the operation of wagons in the Monas area," Iqbal said in a written statement.
