SURABAYA - The procurement and installation of pumps at the Petekan Pump House have been completed according to the target this month. Currently, the pumps can be used to prevent flooding in the City of Heroes.
Head of the Public Works Office of Bina Marga and Pematusan (DPUBMP) Surabaya, Erna Purnawati, said that the project for procurement and installation of pumps at Petekan Pump House is targeted for completion in December 2020. According to Erna, this year, the Surabaya City Government will procure two pumps at the same time to be installed at the Petekan Pump House.
The first pump has a capacity of 5 cubic meters and the second has a capacity of 3 cubic meters. Previously, there were only pumps with a capacity of 5 cubic meters for one unit and 3 cubic meters for one unit.
"So, in total there are now 4 pump units, consisting of 2 pump units with a capacity of 5 cubic meters and 2 more units with a capacity of 3 cubic meters," he explained.
Even though the construction of the pump has been completed, he ensures that the physical construction is not completely finished. This is because the physical construction still has to build several buildings on top of the pump.
"Then the shipping door which later can open and close is also not completely finished, maybe next year we will finish it. But in terms of function, the pumps are functioning now," said Erna.
In addition, Erna ensured that the generator set had been added to the Petekan Pump House, because the spare generator set at the Sumberejo Pump House had been moved there. "In total there are now 2 generator units at the Petekan Pump House. God willing, that is enough," he said.
Erna also explained that the Petekan Pump House functions like gravity. When the river water level is high, the water will be pumped out to sea and vice versa.
"The design of the Petekan Pump House is also made a heritage and is different from other water pumps. This is to increase the tourist attraction of the Kalimas River," he said.
This Petekan Pump House is a major flood management project in the city of Surabaya. This flood prevention facility is predicted to replace the role of 20 pump houses in Central and North Surabaya.
