60 Cases Of Obscenity OCCURred In Batam Throughout 2022, LPA: All Cases Processed Until Court

KEPRI - The Batam City Child Protection Agency (LPA) recorded as many as 60 cases of child molestation throughout 2022. All cases were processed until the court.

Batam City LPA Secretary Eri Syahrial said the molestation case was a case that occurred a lot in Batam City during 2022.

"Throughout 2022, there are as many as 60 cases of child molestation that are legally processed until the court. This case can be legally proven and sufficient offense until it is processed," Eri said in a written statement, Friday, December 30, confiscated by Antara.

He explained that there were several cases of violence or sexual harassment against children that could not be processed or continued with the process due to lack of evidence, witnesses, slow reporting and others.

Furthermore, Eri conveyed that the perpetrators of cases of sexual abuse in children were adults, and a small number of perpetrators were children, so they were categorized as Legal Children (ABH).

"Most of the perpetrators are people who are close to their children, have relationships and often interact with children such as teachers/educators, stepfathers, girlfriends and newly known people," he said.

Factors of sexual abuse due to lack of supervision of children within educational institutions, weak parental supervision, due to child associations and the influence of pornographic content, resulting in child attachments to cyberspace.

In addition to cases of child molestation, during 2022 the Batam City LPA received four complaints of other child cases that occurred in the city, including cases of children in conflict with the law (ABH), cases or child custody problems, cases of bullying that occurred in the school environment and cases of child rights neglect.

Regarding the complaint, the Batam City LPA provides assistance services to victims and reporters in the form of legal assistance/advocacy, assessments and psychological assistance to victims.

"Services and assistance are provided until the case is resolved. If the victim needs to get a referral to another party, then the LPA provides a reference according to the needs of the victim," said Eri.

He said that in carrying out child protection services for LPA Batam City, Riau Islands collaborated with Legal Aid Institutes (LBH), psychologists, coordinating with law enforcement officers, namely the police, prosecutors and courts, related agencies to the Regional Child Protection and Supervision Commission (KPPAD) of Batam City.
