Makassar BPBD: The Number Of Victims Affected By The Flood As Many As 239 People

JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Makassar City, South Sulawesi, has begun evacuating a number of residents who were trapped in the flood at their homes in two sub-districts that are in flood-prone zones with 239 residents affected.

"The team has come down to help evacuate residents by rubber boat at the flood site in Manggala Village, Manggala District and Katimbang Village, Biringkanaya District," said Head of Makassar BPBD, Achmad Hendra Hakammmuddin, quoted from Antara, Sunday, December 25.

So far, the number of residents affected by the flood in the two sub-districts is 239 people with 67 heads of families (KK). Meanwhile, there are five refugee posts filled with residents affected by the flood. This number is estimated to increase as the weather conditions are not yet normal.

Some residents are still in refugee camps and need food, medicine and blankets because their houses are submerged in water. The water level varies from 20 centimeters to 100 centimeters in two local locations.

The refugee camp in Manggala Village is located at the Jabal Nur Blok 10 Mosque, Jalan Biola with 34 families with 124 people.

Furthermore, in Katimbang Village, the evacuation site at the Ar Rahman Mosque (Grand Rahmani Residence) with 15 families of survivors or as many as 65 people. The next post is at Warkop Gamacca (Jalan) Poros Katimbang, the number of survivors is 9 families or 30 people.

Then, the Command Post at the Nur Ikhlas Mosque (Kodam I), the number of survivors is 4 families or 15 people and at the Tri Putri Kindergarten Post (Kodam III) the number of survivors is 5 families or 20 people.

So far, the Makassar BPBD team continues to collect data and be on standby. The number of personnel deployed in the field is 60 officers consisting of 35 evacuation teams, 15 assessment teams and 10 medical teams. For defense equipment, one multipurpose truck has been prepared, seven rubber boats, and three ambulances, field cars and pickup cars each.

The impact of the flood was triggered by moderate to heavy rain which caused calm water and fallen trees in several areas of Makassar City since yesterday. In addition, the BMKG has issued an early warning that extreme weather will take effect from 23-25 December 2022.

Efforts to meet basic needs for affected victims are the fulfillment of clothing and food as well as health services. Humanitarian assistance for fallen trees and flood survivors has also been distributed to affected victims.
