1,543 Houses in East Aceh Were Flooded

BANDA ACEH - The East Aceh Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) stated that as many as 1,543 houses of residents in several sub-districts in the district were flooded.

East Aceh BPBD Chief Executive Ashad said the floods occurred due to heavy rains that have flushed the area in the last few days.

"Thousands of houses submerged in the floods are spread across 24 villages in five sub-districts. The floods have affected 1,275 residents. Until now, residents are still staying in their respective homes", Ashadi said as reported by ANTARA, Monday, December 19.

Ashadi said that the floods that have submerged the settlements have occurred due to heavy rains since Saturday, December 17. The water level ranges from 10 to 50 centimeters.

The 1,543 houses inundated by the floods were among as many as 100 houses in Alue Ie Mirah and Jambo Lubok Villages, Indra Makmu District.

Then, as many as 1,220 houses in Julok District, including Buket Panyang Village, Gampong Baro, Blang Kumahang, Blang Jambe, Labuhan, Julok Tunong, Alue Cek Doi, Lhok Seuntang, Snb Rambong, Teupin Raya, Matang.

Furthermore, as many as 25 houses in Darul Aman District include Snb Tuha Sa Village, Gampong Keude, Lhok Geulumpang, Alue Gadeng, Buket Rumia, Blang Buket, Snb, Teungoh, Kapai Baro.

As well as two houses in Blang Minje Village, Idi Tunong District. Meanwhile, in Darul Falah District, data collection is still being carried out, said Ashadi.

"The flood also caused two houses to suffer minor damage in Blang Minje Village, Idi Tunong District. The BPBD team is still in the field recording residents affected by the flood and damage caused by the disaster", said Ashadi.

Ashadi said that his party continues to monitor developments in the field related to the flood. BPBD also appealed to the public to be wary of secondary floods following the potential for rain to still occur in the eastern region of Aceh.

"People who live in disaster-prone areas such as around river basins are advised to increase their vigilance and preparedness. We also ask village officials to report immediately if a disaster occurs", he said.
