Not In Accordance With The Promise Of The Governor Of DKI, Rice And Chicken Prices Continue To Rise In Traditional Markets

JAKARTA - Prices of basic necessities and chicken meat in a number of traditional markets in Central Jakarta have increased ahead of Christmas 2022 and New Year 2023. And the increase in rice and chicken prices has occurred since 1 week ago.

Head of the Central Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Sub-Department (Kasudin), Penty Yunesi Pudyastuti confirmed the increase in a number of basic commodities.

"It is true that there has been an increase, such as rice and chicken pieces. Other staples such as chilies, eggs, meat and fish have not increased," he said when confirmed, Monday, December 19.

When met by reporters, Rosmini, a rice trader at the Rawa Buffalo Market, Cempaka Putih, said the price of rice had varied from Rp1,000 to Rp2,000 per liter of various types of rice.

According to Rosmini, the increase in rice occurred ahead of Christmas 2022 and New Year's 2023. Apart from experiencing an increase, the quality of rice has also decreased.

"Now the color is a bit yellow, want ordinary rice to good ones also experience color change," he said.

In the same place, Aming, a chicken trader, admitted that the purchasing power of consumers has decreased. This is because the price of a piece of chicken from what is usually sold is IDR 33 thousand now to IDR 40 thousand.

"This price will continue to increase until the New Year 2023. The impact of this increase is usually for buyers to buy 3 heads to 1 head," he said.

Previously, the Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono guaranteed that the availability of food in Jakarta would be maintained ahead of Christmas Day 2022 and New Year's 2023. Heru conveyed this after visiting the Kramat Jati Main Market, East Jakarta.

"God willing, prices will stabilize, the supply will be safe, even until March," said Heru, Tuesday, December 6.
