KALBAR A couple suspected of having an abortion was arrested by the West Kalimantan Sekadau Police Satreskrim. The couple had the initials NI and IN, who were registered as residents of Sepauk, Sintang Regency.

"We have secured a couple who was caught committing an abortion. The abortion was about to be carried out at an inn in Sekadau, starting when the NI and IN lovers came to the inn on a motorbike with the intention of checking in," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Sekadau Police, Iptu Rahmad Kartono, quoted from Antara, Sunday, December 11.

When the inn owner finished preparing the room, NI and IN suddenly disappeared from the reception lobby. The inn owner was shocked, conducting a search to the parking location.

In the parking lot, the inn owner saw a motorcycle seat with a blood mark. Then, the owner of the inn returned to look for NI and IN to the inside of the inn.

"The couple was found in the public bathroom of the inn. From there it was discovered that IN was pregnant and in a bloody condition. The suspect NI argued that his partner was having a miscarriage and asked the inn owner not to contact the police," he said.

He continued, the owner of the inn, who was worried that something would happen to the young couple, reported to the head of the RT and the head of the local hamlet. After jointly checking, the head of the RT and the head of the hamlet reported this to the police.

From examining their identities and belongings, the police revealed that the NI and IN pair intended to abort the pregnancy.

To save IN's life, he was immediately taken to the hospital. Meanwhile, NI was secured to the Sekadau Police Headquarters for further legal proceedings," he said.

"Regarding the actions of the two people, the police stated that they had violated Article 194 of Law Number 36 of 2009 concerning Health and Article 346 of the Criminal Code with a maximum imprisonment of 10 years and a maximum fine of Rp. 1 billion," said the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Sekadau Police.
