JAKARTA - The police thwarted a shipment of 288 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine in Pegadengan, Tangerang Regency. The three perpetrators had to die from receiving hot lead from the police in the attempt to arrest them.

Kapolda Metro Jaya, Inspector General Nana Sudjana, said firm action had to be taken after the suspects fought back using firearms at officers. After the police followed the drug shipment from Merak Port to Jakarta using a box car.

"When feeling pressed, one of the suspects shot at the member's car. So, quick steps were taken to take firm action," said Nana in Tangerang, Thursday, January 30.

In this case, the Polda Metro Jaya Narcotics Directorate team led by Kombes Herry Heryawan has been conducting surveillance for two months. The police, who had observed the behavior of this drug network, then tried to follow the boxcar used by the perpetrator for the delivery of methamphetamine to Jakarta.

Based on the characteristics received by the police, the team then pursued a box car with a number plate B 9004 PHX that was going fast and suspiciously on the Toll Road from Merak towards Jakarta.

"But the vehicle actually sped up at KM 23, then it was stopped and had a chance to brush against the members' vehicles, leaving the road," he continued.

Feeling threatened and cornered, the perpetrator who was in the car then opened fire on the officers. Like an action film, the police fired firm and measured shots at the perpetrators.

As a result of this decisive action, one perpetrator died in a car box. Meanwhile, the other two, lay lifeless in the bushes 3 to 4 meters from the vehicle.

The police then searched the contents of the box car that the three perpetrators were carrying. The search found 288 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine stored in plastic boxes wrapped in cloth. The police also secured three homemade firearms that the perpetrator used to attack the police.

"There are about 288 boxes of crystal methamphetamine. The numbers are looking for hundreds of kilograms because it is estimated that each box contains 1 kilogram," said Nana.

Among the piles of shabu-shabu packages, it is known that they came from Iran, and will be distributed in Jakarta. The police will develop this case to uncover this international drug syndicate.
