MAJALENGKA - Majalengka Police, West Java, arrested three fraudsters under the guise of Umrah travel agents with 21 victims. "We arrested three people who cheated under the guise of Umrah travel agents," said Majalengka Police Chief AKBP Edwin Affandi in Majalengka, Antara, Monday, November 21. Edwin said the three suspects had the initials SI (45), a resident of Majalengka Regency, M (39), and RY (48), a resident of Bekasi City. All three have their respective roles to carry out this crime. The SI suspect raised public funds that were leaving for Umrah by pretending to deposit money to RY and M's Umrah travel agent who claimed to be manager. For the departure fee, continued Edwin, the three suspects withdrew from Rp28 million to Rp32 million. However, they never left. "The suspects promised to dispatch Umrah through official agents. However, after 21 victims had already paid the fee according to the brochure, they never left," he said. In fact, said Edwin, the three suspects on October 12, 2022 tried to trick 21 victims by promising to dispatch Saudi Arabia. However, they first transited at one of the hotels in Tangerang. However, said Edwin, the victims did not get clarity, they even had to stay at the hotel for up to 17 days. During that time there was no certainty about departure. The victims became suspicious of what happened to them, then tried to contact the suspects. However, they lost contact. "The victim was accommodated for 17 days at a hotel in Tangerang, until finally the victims realized that they had been deceived," he said. As a result of his actions, the suspect was charged with Article 378 and/or 372 of the Criminal Code with a maximum sentence of 4 years in prison.
