Human Statues With Head Turning Left Found In Lahat South Sumatra

PALEMBANG - The discovery of an intact human statue in a former coffee plantation in Rindu Hati Village, Lahat Regency, South Sumatra, shocked residents.

"We reviewed the human statue last week with Disdikbud Lahat, whose condition is intact from head to waist," said Head of the Paranomic Tourism Observing Community of Lahat Mario quoted by Antara, Sunday, December 13.

The statue was found to be 70 centimeters tall with a head like wearing a hat and the sleeves showing a short sleeve shirt. The position of the statue itself is facing west with its head turned to the left.

Mario suspects that the statue belongs to the Negro race, which in general has the same shape as the statues found earlier in Lahat and Pagaralam. Now that location has been recorded as the 53rd megalith site in the region.

The location for the discovery of the statue is in the thickets of a former coffee plantation about 100 meters from the Selangis River. Local residents said the location was a village where its residents had been living for decades.

Mario received information on the existence of the statue from a resident named Suharsono, based on his search that the location of the human statue is still close to another megalithic site in Sumber Karya Village in the form of two human statues, two flat stones and two tetralites.

"This human statue is the first discovery in 2020, we have reported it to the Jambi Cultural Heritage Conservation Center (BPCB) to be followed up on land acquisition and the appointment of site maintenance personnel," he said.

Mario said the discovery of the human statue further enriched the collection of megalithic cultural sites in Lahat Regency, which has reached more than 1,000. The findings consist of statues, stone mortar, stone mortar, stone graves, and stone chambers.
