Reasons For Government Delaying RKUHP Discussion With DPR: Queuing The Report Schedule To The President

JAKARTA - Discussions on the Draft Criminal Code (RKUHP) between the government and the Indonesian Parliament on November 21-22 have finally been postponed. The tight schedule of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has recently been the reason for the delay.

"We are still queuing for the schedule to report to the president because the president is still very busy. That's the only problem," said Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD in a written statement to journalists, Monday, November 21.

Mahfud said that it was the government that requested the postponement of this meeting. They want to report first to President Jokowi regarding the socialization process of the RKUHP in the community.

The former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) ensured that there was nothing else to delay the government's implementation. Moreover, this report is important considering that socialization will be carried out again.

"Because the socialization was carried out again at the direction of President Jokowi (on, red) August 2, 2022. We asked for a postponement because we will first report to the President about the results of the socialization for 3.5 months," he said.

Regarding the delay in deliberating the RKUHP, DPR Commission III member Taufik Basari or Tobas conveyed this. He said the delay was requested by the government.

"The RKUHP discussion meeting on November 21-22 has been postponed. I hope this delay is in order to review the inputs both submitted by the DPR and the public to refine the draft RKUHP and ensure that there are no articles that have the potential to cause problems in the future," Tobas told reporters Sunday, 20 November.

Tobas did not want to elaborate on the reason for the delay. He asked the government to explain.

The RKUHP draft has changed from 632 articles to 627 articles in the period 6 July to 9 November 2022. There were 5 articles deleted, while others were reformulated.
