Attack 3 Police During Demonstration Against G20 Bali Summit, Police Name 2 Cenderawasih University Students Suspect

PAPUA - The Jayapura City Police, Papua, have named two Cenderawasih University (Uncen) students as suspects for their involvement in the case of assaulting police officers during a demonstration in Abepura, Jayapura, last Wednesday.

The Jayapura City Police Chief, Commissioner Victor Mackbon, said that his party had previously selected seven students during the demonstration. Of the seven, five have been repatriated and the rest are named suspects.

The two Uncen students who were named as suspects were GP (22) and KA (18). Both were subject to articles 160 and 124 paragraphs (1) and (2) junto article 212 of the Criminal Code regarding actions against and attacking officers.

"For their actions, the two suspects face a prison sentence of more than five years", Victor Mackbon told reporters in Jayapura, quoted from Antara, Friday, November 18.

Regarding the possibility that the two students are affiliated with groups that want to separate themselves from the Republic of Indonesia, the Jayapura City Police Chief said that his party was still investigating.

Three police officers who are victims of abuse are currently improving but are still undergoing treatment at the hospital.

"The three injured members are currently recovering, although they are still being treated at Bhayangkara Hospital, Kotaraja", said Commissioner Mackbon.

The two suspects along with students and dozens of other masses held a demonstration against the G20 Summit at Cenderawasih University which ended in chaos, resulting in three police officers being injured.
