President Erdogan Expressed The Talks Of The CIA And SVR Chiefs In Ankara, Calling The US-Russia Will Not Use Nuclear Weapons

JAKARTA - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan believes Russia and the United States will not use nuclear weapons, when he revealed the talks of the intelligence chiefs of the two countries in Ankara earlier this week.

Director of Russian Foreign Intelligence (SVR) Sergei Naryshkin, and Director of the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) William Burns met in Ankara, to discuss a number of things, one of which was nuclear weapons.

"According to information received from the intelligence chief (Turkey), Russia and the United States discussed not using nuclear weapons," President Erdogan said upon his return from the G20 summit in Bali, TASS reported on November 17.

"The current parties show no signs they will try to use them. We want to see them meet more often, and we are ready to promote this."

"It (the use of nuclear weapons) can lead to a new, arithmetic world war. We must put aside this risk," President Erdogan stressed, according to television channel TRT.

It is known that the SVR and CIA chiefs met at the headquarters of the Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT) in Ankara on November 14.

Turkey's presidential communications director Fahrettin Altun said after the talks, negotiators had discussed threats to international security, including those related to the possible use of nuclear weapons.

As previously reported, the two leaders of the intelligence agency discussed the consequences of any use of nuclear weapons, to the issue of US detainees in Russia, a White House official said.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed to the Russian news agency that both took place in the Turkish capital, Ankara, but declined to provide details on participants or topics discussed.

Meanwhile, a White House spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Burns met Sergei Naryshkin, head of Russia's SVR foreign intelligence service.

It was the first known US-Russian high-face contact since Russia invaded Ukraine in February.

It is known that Burns is a former US Ambassador to Russia who was sent to Moscow in late 2021 by President Joe Biden, to warn President Putin about the buildup of troops around Ukraine.
