European Drug Administration Confirms Cyber Attack Data Theft Has Occurred

JAKARTA - European medical regulators on Friday, December 11, confirmed that there had been data theft through cyber attacks disclosed a few days earlier.

Reported by Antara, Saturday, December 12, the regulator, the European Drug Administration (EMA), also revealed that a number of documents belonging to third parties were accessed illegally.

The EMA on Wednesday, December 9 did not provide any information when it disclosed the cyber attack. However, Pfizer and BioNTech SE companies said that documents related to the development of their COVID-19 vaccine were accessed illegally.

On Friday, December 11, EMA said the companies involved had been notified of the incident, but did not name the companies in question.

Authorities also stated that the incident did not affect operations, or schedules, regarding the evaluation and approval of the COVID-19 drug and vaccine.
