JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly, Arsul Sani, proposed that the amendment to the 1945 Constitution be carried out after the 2024 General Election. "It should be done after the 2024 General Election so that there is no hidden agenda," said Asrul Sani at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, November 16. The discourse on amendments to the 1945 Constitution was carried out to accommodate the Principles of State Policy (PPHN). According to him, the proposal had been submitted in a joint meeting between the MPR leadership, the leadership of the factions and the DPD group. The MPR leadership received many aspirations to conduct an assessment of amendments to the 1945 Constitution. "I propose that even if it is an amendment, it is impossible before the election," he said. According to Asrul, if the amendments are made before the 2024 General Election, there will be too many hidden agendas or what is often said to be opening Pandora's box. "If you want amendments, it's better in the future," he said. Asrul explained that for three years as one of the leaders of the MPR, they received various aspirations from various groups or elements of society that encouraged the MPR to explore and review the fifth amendment to the 1945 Constitution. He added that during the MPR period under the leadership of Zulkifli Hasan, the amendment was one of the recommendations so that at this time his party would continue. "The previous MPR when led by Zulkifli Hasan also recommended. The current MPR period for the first means that it is one step ahead. The PPHN assessment and then studied and prepared the script," he said.
