JAKARTA - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday visited Kherson's recently re-arrested southern city, where he accused Russian forces of war crimes before they fled last week.

"We are moving forward," he told the troops standing in a formation in front of the administrative building in the city's main square.

"We are ready for peace, peace for our entire country," he continued.

On the occasion, President Zelensky also thanked NATO and other allies for their ongoing support in the fight against Russia. He also said rocket shipments from the United States had made a big difference for Kyiv.

"I'm very happy, you can tell from people's reactions, their reactions are not staged," President Zelensky said.

Minutes before he arrived, gunfire nearby could be heard from the Kherson center, and after he finished speaking, several artillery explosions echoed throughout the city.

President Zelensky also warned Kherson residents of Russian mines.

"I ask you not to forget that the situation in the Kherson region remains very dangerous," he ordered.

The re-batch of Kherson by Ukraine marks the withdrawal of Moscow's third major war and the first involves the surrender of the occupied big city.

Russian troops who withdrew across the Dnipro River continued to fire on Ukrainian troops and the newly re-restolented settlements, from a new position on the opposite side, the southern command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said Monday.

Ukraine's Ministry of Defense said it had reclaimed 179 settlements and 4,500 square km (1,700 square miles) along the Dnipro River since the start of the week.
