Floods Are Always Carried In Pilkada Competitions, Now Medan City Government Receives IDR 250 Million Central Assistance

MEDAN - The Medan City Government (Pemko) received a ready-made emergency response fund to deal with the impact of the flood disaster that hit 11 sub-districts in the Medan area amounting to IDR 250 million. This assistance was provided by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).

"On behalf of the Pemko Medan, we would like to thank BNPB, including Commission VIII DPR RI for this assistance. Of course it is very useful to help us overcome the effects of the floods that hit Medan some time ago," said the Head of the Medan City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Arjuna. Sembiring in Medan was quoted by Antara, Thursday, December 10.

Arjuna's statement was conveyed when he received ready-to-use funds for flood disaster emergency response in Medan City in 2020 which was submitted by a member of Commission VIII DPR from the Gerindra Party faction M Husni at Medan City Hall.

Arjuna revealed that the floods that hit 11 sub-districts in the capital city of North Sumatra Province, especially in the watershed (DAS) had resulted in 26,671 people or 8,608 families being affected by the flood.

"Pemko Medan together with related elements have tried to take measures, such as evacuation. In addition, it also helps the community in cleaning their houses. Alhamdulillah, now the community has also returned to its activities," he continued.

"God willing, we will use this aid with full responsibility to help the community," explained Arjuna.

Meanwhile, a member of Commission VIII DPR, M Husni, said that his commission has scope in the fields of religion, social affairs and disaster. On that basis, he said, his party coordinated with the central government so that Medan City could receive disaster management assistance.

"Medan City is part of my electoral district. Hopefully this assistance can help Medan City Government in dealing with the impacts caused by flooding," said Husni.
