Volunteers Ahead Of The 2024 Presidential Election, PDIP: Some Are Set Against Each Other

JAKARTA - Secretary General of the PDI-P (PDIP) Hasto Kristiyanto stated that the actions of political volunteers are fluid. Their appearance could have been ridden with various purposes, including pitting characters against one another.

"We can all see the motives of the volunteers because the organization is very fluid and there are also various interests that can be played. There are even volunteers who are also used to pit certain figures against each other," said Hasto in Jakarta, quoted on Monday, 31 October.

Hasto also saw that the volunteers seemed to want President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to immediately finish his term of office by mentioning the issue of candidacy. In fact, the former governor of DKI Jakarta is trying to build the legacy of his leadership.

This condition made Hasto remind all parties to be patient. Moreover, those who are entitled to carry a certain name as a presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election are political parties.

This is in accordance with existing regulations, that volunteers do not have the authority to carry certain names in general elections. "Politics is by rules," he said.

"The nominees and candidate pairs are political parties or coalitions of political parties," said Hasto.

Instead of busy frying the presidential candidate, Hasto asked all parties to help solve the nation's problems. Volunteers are reminded to follow the election stages determined by the General Elections Commission (KPU).

"Don't waste energy unnecessarily, after all, the presidential and vice presidential candidates are still in next year's stage. So, why are we wasting energy and it's better now that everything can help Mr. President Jokowi," he said.

Hasto reminded that President Jokowi's government will continue until 2024. The general election will not be held next week or next month, so there is no need to offer names in a hurry.

"Well, volunteers, it seems that the election is next week, next month, this is the same as pushing Mr. Jokowi to finish quickly. Even though Mr. Jokowi is still in October 2024," concluded Hasto.
