Thousands Of Cirebon Residents Had Been Affected By The Flood, The Mayor Of Salahkan Bad Konsidi Drainage

JABAR - A number of areas in Cirebon were flooded, causing thousands of residents to be affected earlier this week. Cirebon Mayor Nashrudin Azis said he would handle the problem with a focus on improving drainage or waterways.

"In the short term, we continue to strive to improve drainage, to minimize flooding," he said in Cirebon, West Java (West Java), quoted from Antara, Thursday, October 27.

He said flooding in Cirebon City on Tuesday, October 25, was triggered by poor drainage that could not accommodate water discharge when heavy rains fell.

According to him, the flood point has also become more widespread when compared to similar incidents in previous years, and this must be addressed immediately so that more severe flooding occurs.

For this reason, he said, drainage repairs are a priority to deal with floods that occur, both temporarily and permanently.

"Two years ago the repair was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it is hoped that next year it can be budgeted, so that improvements can be permanent," he said.

He hopes that the community will also play an active role in maintaining waterways or drainage, such as not disposing of garbage around the drainage, or constructing buildings that can block waterways.

"The problem of flooding is indeed the responsibility of the government, but the active role of community members needs to be carried out, such as not littering, don't build buildings that block waterways," he said.

He also apologized for the flood that occurred, for hampering community activities, both residents of Cirebon City, and from outside the area that was passing.

For this reason, the Cirebon City Government invites all people to jointly protect the environment, so that flood events can be minimized, and do not cause harm.

"On behalf of the Cirebon City Government, we apologize profusely to all citizens of Cirebon, as well as the surrounding community who came to Cirebon for its inconvenience," he concluded.
