JAKARTA - BMKG predicts that extreme weather will occur over the next week in Jambi. Some areas in November 2022 will enter the peak of the rainy season, especially the western part.

"Flood and landslide disasters can also easily occur in the western part of Jambi because they are mountainous areas," said the Head of BMKG Jambi Province, Ibnu Sulistyo, Thursday, October 27.

Therefore, the public must be vigilant in the next week because extreme weather will occur in Jambi, especially the western part of Jambi.

Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning will occur early in western Jambi, due to climate change in the Indian Ocean which causes wind turnover and causes rainy clouds.

Ibnu explained that at the end of October, extreme weather will occur in several districts in western Jambi such as Kerinci Regency, Sungai Penuh City, Merangin Regency and finally Sarolangun Regency and the four regencies are mountainous areas.

"The heavy rains that occur can cause landslides and flash floods, therefore it is hoped that people living in the area are asked to remain vigilant," he said as quoted by Antara.

Meanwhile, for the eastern Jambi such as Muaro Jambi, West Tanjungjabung and East Tanjungjabung Regencies, the intensity of rain is still relatively low, including in Jambi City and Batang Hari, Tebo and Bungo Regencies. In early November it will be the peak of the rainy season in the area and also has the potential for heavy rain accompanied by a wind of dating and lightning.

Ibnu Sulistyo appealed to the people of Jambi not to move outside when it rains and then do not stop or take shelter under trees when it rains because it is feared that trees will fall, so they must be vigilant as early as possible.

Meanwhile, the Merangin Regent H Mashuri asked the families of the landslide victims Ahmad Nazari, a resident of Salam Buku Village, Batang Masumai District, to evacuate to a safe place because his house shifted by a meter due to landslides.

"To prevent casualties, it is better for this family to evacuate first and this house could shift again or be carried away by landslides," said Regent Mashuri.

The Regent has coordinated with the Head of Merangin BPBD Mardansyah Saidi for the evacuation process of residents there, namely Salam Puku Village, Batang Masumai District, a landslide occurred which caused a house unit to shift about one meter from its original place.
