JAKARTA - Turkey is again demonstrating its strength in the field of development and production of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) aka drones, by introducing the latest kamikaze drones developed domestically

Named Deli, this drone is the result of Titra Teknoloji's work, exhibited for the first time at the SAHA Expo defense and flight exhibition starting last Tuesday in Istanbul.

General manager of Titra Teknoloji Davut Y30lmaz told Anadolu Agency (AA), Project Deli started about two years ago.

He explained that they are starting to develop a fixed-wing kamikaze UAV that can be rolled out manually or from a catapult, which is as effective as possible in terms of cost, adding that the testing process is nearing its end, expecting the product to reach a level where it can be immediately included in the inventory list later this year.

With its autonomous and manual operational capabilities, Deli can be easily transported with its modular structure and is ready for use in less than 15 minutes. Its security has been upgraded with anti-jamming devices, capable of reaching a cruising speed of 80 kilometers per hour (50 mph) and a maximum speed of 180 kilometers per hour.

Deli is preparing to enter the battlefield with a maximum height of 3,500 meters (11483 ft) and an operational height of 150-500 meters. Not to forget, this drone is equipped with a warhead of about 3.1 kilograms (6.8 pounds).

The warhead to be used in the UAV kamikaze was developed by the Institute for Defense Industry Research and Development (SAGE) of the Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council (TENT).

He explained that their product has three basic advantages compared to similar products in the market.

"First, cost-effective. This type of kamikaze drone is preferred to the cheap one because it will not be used twice," he said, launching Daily Sabah on October 25.

The second advantage is the drone warhead, according to Y staylmaz, while the third advantage is its autonomous capabilities.

"Thanks to the algorithm we developed ourselves with its autonomous features, we think Deli will make a big difference," he said.
