BENGKULU - The Bengkulu Food and Drug Control Center (BPOM) reviewed and supervised the withdrawal of five sirop medicinal products containing glycol ethylene contamination beyond the safe threshold at the drug and pharmacy distributor level. Five sirop medicinal products containing ethylene glycol (EG) contamination exceed the safe threshold including the Thermorex Sirup ( fever medicine) produced by PT Konnimex, Flurin DMP Sirup (cough and flu medicine) produced by PT Yarindo Farmatama, Unibebi Cough Sirup (cough and flu medicine) produced by Universal Pharmaceutical Industries, Unibebi Fever ( fever medicine) produced by Universal Pharmaceutical Industries, and Unibebi Fever Drops ( fever medicine) produced by Universal Pharmaceutical Industries. Head of BPOM Bengkulu Yogi Abasso Mataram said the supervision of the withdrawal of the five sirop medicinal products was carried out in all districts and cities in Bengkulu Province. "BPOM Bengkulu, according to directions from the Ministry of Health, has asked pharmacies to stop selling sirop drugs," he explained in Bengkulu City, Antara, Friday, October 21. Yogi also appealed to residents not to temporarily take sirop-shaped drugs in accordance with directions from the Ministry of Health. The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) stated that the content of ethilen glycol contamination that exceeds the safe limit has not been able to support the conclusion that the use of drug sirops is related to the incidence of acute kidney failure. In addition to drug use, there are several risk factors that cause acute kidney failure, such as viral infections, Leptospira bacteria, and multisystem inflammation syndrome. However, BPOM has ordered the pharmaceutical industry that owns a distribution permit of five sirop drugs containing ethylene glycol contamination to exceed the safe threshold to attract their sirop medicinal products from circulation throughout Indonesia and destroy all product benches. The withdrawal of sirop medicinal products containing ethilen glycol contamination exceeds the safe threshold including pharmaceutical wholesalers, government pharmacy installations, pharmacies, hospital pharmacy installations, health centers, clinics, drug stores, and independent health workers practices.
