JAKARTA - Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo warned regional head candidates in Central Java not to end the campaign period with mass gathering activities.

The campaign period for the 2020 Pilkada will end on Saturday, December 5. After that there will be a quiet period of three days, before voting day on December 9th.

"Tomorrow is the last day of the campaign. I ask the supporting parties, including their candidates, not to end the campaign in full, because that is bound to be a crowd. We really ask that the request be carried out," said Ganjar in a discussion broadcast on YouTube BNPB Indonesia, Friday , 4 December.

Ganjar said he had conveyed this request at a meeting of the Central Java Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda), together with the local KPU and Bawaslu.

In the coordination meeting, Ganjar was worried about the increase in COVID-19 cases in Central Java. Because, currently the region is facing three problems.

First, there are thousands of Central Java residents who are displaced by the eruption of Mount Merapi. Second, in recent times, Central Java has recorded an increase in COVID-19 cases. Third, the implementation of the elections itself.

"What we can do is minimize the risk, so during the meeting, the first thing I tell them (candidates) is 'eh, tomorrow is the last campaign, please don't mobilize (the masses)'," said Ganjar.

"But this is an appeal. Because this is not easy because there have been many campaigns taking place on the streets. That's why I told Bawaslu to disperse if there is a crowd. This dissolution is in collaboration with village officials and the police," he continued.
