JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Task Force Team secured the Banggai Laut Regent, Wenny Bukamo during a hand arrest (OTT) operation.

In a silent operation in Banggai Kepulauan Regency and Luwuk Regency, Central Sulawesi, the KPK also took part in securing 15 other people. Among them are officials of the Banggai Laut Regency Government and a number of private parties.

"There are 16 parties that have been secured, including the Regent of Banggai Laut, officials from the district government who are proud of the sea and several private parties," said Acting KPK spokesman Ali Fikri in his statement, Friday, December 4.

Wenny Bukamo and 15 other people were arrested by the KPK Task Force team because they were suspected of being involved in a bribery transaction. Ali said that Wenny Bukamo was suspected of accepting bribes from the contractor.

"The allegation of corruption in this case is related to the provision of a sum of money from the private sector or the contractor for the implementation of work to state officials, in this case the regent allegedly received the pride of the sea," said Ali.

Currently, the KPK Task Force team is still intensively examining the arrested parties. Anti-corruption agencies have 1x24 hours after the OTT to determine the legal status of the parties.
