Jembrana Bali Hit By Flash Flood, Denpasar-Gilimanuk Access Is Cut Off

BALI - The overflow of the river has caused flash floods to hit a number of points in Jembrana Regency, Bali. As a result, some infrastructure such as bridges were damaged.

"Our team has gone to disaster-hit locations, and we continue to monitor. This disaster was caused by overflowing water from the river," said Jembrana Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Head I Putu Agus Artana Putra, in Negara, Jembrana, Bali, as quoted from Antara, Monday 17 October.

He said heavy rains in the upper river on Sunday, October 16, caused rivers in Jembrana to overflow to the mainland side of the river.

"We are still continuing to collect data on damage, both public facilities and residents' houses due to this flood. Coordination with related institutions is also carried out to accelerate assistance for residents who are victims," ​​he said.

The information gathered noted that a number of bridges were broken due to flash floods, and hundreds of houses were submerged in high water.

The flood that exceeded the bridge in Biluk Poh Hamlet, Mendoyo Sub-district caused the flow of vehicles heading Denpasar-Gilimanuk and vice versa, temporarily prohibited from crossing the bridge because it was dangerous.

Hundreds of residents also fled to escape the flood, including some by bringing livestock such as cows which are usually tethered near rivers.

"We urge residents to find a safe place. The weather is still uncertain at this time," he said.
