Update On COVID-19 As Of December 3: Worsening, New Cases Reach 8,369

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) releases the latest additional positive cases of COVID-19 today. A total of 62,397 specimens were examined today. As a result, there were 8,369 new positive cases of COVID-19.

The increase in new positive cases of COVID-19 has doubled from the usual, experiencing an increase in the number of new cases of around 4,000 cases.

"The total accumulated positive cases since COVID-19 was discovered in Indonesia reached 557,788 people," he was quoted as saying from the Ministry of Health's data, Thursday, December 3.

Today's cases increased by 3,673, so that a total of 462,553 people recovered. Then, the confirmed positive cases who died increased by 156 people and a total of 17,355 people.

The province with the most new cases is in Papua with 1,755 new cases and a total of 11,879 cases. Followed by West Java which has 1,648 new cases with a total of 55,807 cases. DKI Jakarta has 1,153 new cases and a total of 140,238 cases. Then, Central Java has 767 new cases and a total of 58,337 cases.

The province with the most cases recovered today belongs to DKI Jakarta with an increase of 973 recovered cases. Followed by East Java with an increase of 344 recovered cases, Central Java with an increase of 325 recovered cases, and West Java with an increase of 253 recovered cases.

Then, none of the provinces reported having no new cases today. In addition, the number of specimens examined reached 5,867,621. In detail, a total of 5,763,301 specimens were examined using real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and 104,320 using a molecular rapid test (TCM).

"The number of positive results per number of specimens examined (positivity rate) was 14.1 percent," he wrote.

Finally, the number of people suspected of having contracted COVID-19 or who are currently categorized as suspected cases, was recorded at 69,027 people. Currently, 507 districts / cities from 34 provinces have cases of COVID-19.

It gets worse

Three days ago, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) highlighted the increasing number of active cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia. This made President Jokowi look angry and said the situation for the spread of COVID-19 was getting worse. At that time, active cases of COVID-19 reached 6,267 cases as of Sunday 29 November.

"This is all getting worse," Jokowi said in his introduction to the limited meeting with the Committee for Handling COVID-19 and National Economic Recovery which was broadcast online on the Presidential Secretariat YouTube, Monday, November 30.

He explained, from the data he received on Sunday, November 29, there was an increase in active cases from 12.78 percent to 13.41 percent.

"Although this figure is better than the world figure, but be careful. It is higher than last week," he stressed.

As for the recovery rate, the data it received also decreased. "Last week it was 84.03 percent, now it is 83.44 percent," he said.

He suspects this is due to an increase in COVID-19 cases that have occurred during the past week.

"This is because of this, the cases that have increased more in the last week," he said.
