JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD asked three police officers caught stealing motorbikes in North Sumatra Medan (North Sumatra) to be fired and prosecuted.

"Yes, stop impunity. Apart from being fired, the three police officers must be sentenced to a maximum sentence plus weight as members of law enforcement," Mahfud MD wrote on his Twitter account @mohmahfudmd, Sunday 9 October.

According to him, by punishing the three police officers, Polri investigators can track the network of motorcycle thefts in the community, even within the Bhayangkara Corps itself.

"It can also be used as a chain to find the network, both in the community and in the Police themselves. It's a gang," said Mahfud.

Executive Director of the Indonesian Police Strategic Studies Institute (Lemkapi) Edi Hasibuan on the previous occasion asked three police officers in Medan, North Sumatra (North Sumatra), who robbed residents' motorbikes to be fired.

"The act of robbery of motorbikes belonging to residents masterminded by three police officers in Medan is embarrassing to the Polri institution," he said in a written statement in Jakarta, Saturday, October 8.

Edi asked the North Sumatran Police Chief Inspector General of Police RZ Panca Putra Simanjuntak to take firm action by firing the three police officers from members of the National Police.

"If proven, they are no longer worthy to be members of the National Police. We ask the Police Code of Ethics Commission (KKEP) to recommend that they be fired," he said. Edi said the behavior of the three police officers in Medan had reduced the dignity of the Police and damaged the image of the police in the community.

"They not only violated ethics but their actions have also led to criminal violations," added Edi Hasibuan. Previously, the Medan Besar City Police arrested three police officers and one civilian for allegedly being involved in a motorcycle robbery attempt. Meanwhile, one other perpetrator is still at large.
