Entering Rainy Season, DKI SDA Speeds Up Mud Dredging To Prevent Floods

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Water Resources Service (SDA) is speeding up the dredging of mud in rivers, reservoirs, and waterways, which so far have only reached 855 thousand cubic meters to anticipate flooding during the rainy season.

"Part of the dredged mud will be accommodated in a landfill in Ancol," said Secretary of the DKI Natural Resources Service Dudi Gardesi as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 4.

The DKI Water Resources Department has deployed hundreds of officers and heavy equipment to dredge mud from rivers and reservoirs spread across five areas of DKI Jakarta.

In addition to reservoirs and rivers, mud dredging is also carried out in situ, reservoirs, primary channels, secondary channels, and tertiary channels or connecting channels.

Based on data from the Data and Information Center of the DKI Jakarta SDA Office, as of September 30, 2022, the total volume of mud dredging reached 855,262 cubic meters.

This achievement has only reached 34.5 percent of the target volume of mud dredged as much as 2.48 million cubic meters.

As for the five administrative areas of DKI Jakarta, the number of dredging locations has reached 97 locations.

Of the 97 locations, 32 locations have finished dredging the mud and 42 other locations are in the process of dredging the mud.

Meanwhile, as many as 23 other locations have not started the mud dredging process.

Meanwhile, based on data for 2021, the total volume of mud dredged reached 1.65 million cubic meters from the target of 2.81 million cubic meters.

As for the details, reservoirs in five areas of DKI Jakarta, the actual volume of dredged mud reached 786 thousand cubic meters in 118 reservoir locations.

Connecting canals reach 212 thousand cubic meters in 1,051 channels and rivers reach 653 thousand cubic meters of mud volume in 64 river locations.

The dredged mud is disposed of at the confined disposal facility (CDF) in Ancol, North Jakarta.
