Over Capacity Reference Hospital, East Java Provincial Government Will Build COVID-19 Emergency Hospital In Malang Raya

SURABAYA - A COVID-19 emergency hospital will be built in Malang Raya. This step is an effort of the East Java Province COVID-19 Task Force because the occupancy rate of the COVID-19 referral hospital in Greater Malang reaches 70 percent.

"So it must be built an emergency hospital such as the Field Hospital in Surabaya. Because the Bed Occupancy Rate (BOR) rate at the Covid-19 referral hospital in Malang Raya is already more than 70 percent," said the head of the East Java COVID-19 Task Force Curative Group, Joni Wahyuhadi, confirmed, Tuesday, December 1.

Joni said the construction of an emergency COVID-19 hospital in Malang Raya would later be intended for COVID-19 patients with mild clinical symptoms. This means that the main referral hospital will only be filled with severe clinical COVID-19 patients.

"So the governor decided there was an alternative to build a field hospital like in Surabaya. So that later he could relax the hospital," said Joni.

Joni acknowledged that there was an increase in COVID-19 cases in East Java, although it was not significant. In fact, according to him, the increase in COVID-19 cases in East Java was as big as the increase in cases in West Java, Central Java and DKI Jakarta. According to him, this increase is understandable, because the mobility of the people during the long holiday of the Prophet Muhammad SAW is quite high.

"What is certain is because the health protocol was relaxed. There was a percentage. There was a crowd. The health protocol was down. We have told the team, let's together enforce the health protocol again," said Joni.
